Good morning! This past weekend I put away our Halloween decorations and started decorating for Thanksgiving! We don’t have a ton of Thanksgiving decorations but I love this DIY Vintage Thanksgiving Card Banner. It is made from vintage Thanksgiving cards, and is a mixture of ones I had and ones I found online. It is easy to make and comes together quickly – below is the tutorial and free pennant template! I have a few more Thanksgiving DIY projects to share with you over the next couple weeks so be sure to stop back!
Supplies Needed for Vintage Thanksgiving Card Banner:
- Free printable: Vintage Thanksgiving Banner Template
- Cream or white card stock
- Printed vintage Thanksgiving cards (more information on online sources for these under Step 1)
- Decorative edged scissors
- Ribbon – I used black satin ribbon
STEP 1: Decide which vintage Thanksgiving cards you want to use. You can use cards you have received – they don’t have to be vintage! – or you can print some from online. I found some on a site called Vintage Holiday Crafts where you can download up to 5 vintage cards per project for free! They have so many beautiful vintage cards I need to remember this site for future craft projects.
Once you have selected the cards you want to use, you can decide how large to print them. The pennant template is about 5″ by 6.25″. In the second photo below, you can see the same card printed in three different sizes. It all depends on what you want to see once you cut the pennant shape out. The pennant on the right shows the card altered slightly in Photoshop to extend the pink background of the card. This way I could fit both the man and turkey in the pennant.
STEP 2: Once the pennants are cut out from the vintage cards, you can glue them on to white or cream card stock.
STEP 3: Cut around the pennant using a decorative scissors. Then hole punch each of the top corners.
STEP 5: The next step is optional but always fun – time to add glitter! I chose a few parts of each pennant to add glitter to. You can use colored glitter to match whatever area you are adding glitter to, or you can use clear glitter which works great on any color.
STEP 6: String the banner together! You can run one continues ribbon through each pennant or tie each pennant to the other individually. I chose to use a black satin ribbon to tie my pennant together.
The Thanksgiving banner is all finished! I love the little Thanksgiving scenes each individual pennant creates. While I chose vintage Thanksgiving cards, you could also use modern Thanksgiving cards you’ve received in the past. This would be a fun way to repurpose them :)
