DIY Weasley Jumper Holiday Cards – Harry Potter Craft
Create Harry Potter holiday cards featuring a Weasley Jumper on the front! Made from felt and hand-embroidered, these cards are a special handmade gift for fans. Free template and printables included to help get you started!
Welcome back to day #5 of “12 Days of Holiday Crafts”. Today’s project is Harry Potter-themed and I’m super excited to share it with you! These fun Weasley Jumper cards make the perfect Harry Potter holiday cards for fans!
If you aren’t familiar with the “Weasley Jumper” or “Weasley Sweater”, it is a sweater that Molly Weasley makes all of her kids for the holidays with their first initial on them. Harry is gifted one from Mrs. Weasley during his first Christmas at Hogwarts. It is emerald green with the letter H on it.
These cards feature a Weasley Jumper on the front made from felt with an initial hand-embroidered on it. I have a free template available to download for the jumper plus a few different holiday greetings you can print and use on the front of your card. While I chose to make jumpers inspired by the books, you could make a jumper in any color felt you choose with a different initial on it.
For my cards I used felt from Benzie Design. While you can use any felt for this project, I love how rich and thick the felt is from Benzie. I used Brick Wool Blend Felt for Ron’s jumper and Emerald Wool Blent Felt for Harry’s jumper. The texture is perfect for the jumpers.
The paper I chose for the cover of the card also has a subtle texture to it which works really nicely with the jumpers. It is from a DCWV paperstack. Below is the tutorial and a quick video to show you the steps for making your own Harry Potter holiday cards!
Harry Potter Holiday Cards
Supplies Needed:
- Free template and printable – Grab the free files by filling out the purple form at the end of this post.
- Cardstock
- Piece A: 7″ by 10″ Base of the card. Fold in half so folded card measures 5″ x 7″
- Piece B: 4.5″ by 6.5″ For the front of the card. I used a sheet from the DCWV Textured Nuetrals Cardstock
- Felt
- White pencil for tracing
- Gold embroidery floss
- Double-sided tape – I used 1/4″ Scor-Tape
- Paper Trimmer and scissors
- Needle and thread
- *Optional – paper to line envelope.
- *Optional – Hogwart’s Stamp Seal Sealing Wax kit
Step by Step Tutorial:
Step One: Use the template to cut out the jumper.
Cut out the jumper template and trace it onto felt using a white pencil. Draw the letter you want on the front of the jumper with pencil.
Step Two: Embroidery the letter.
Use gold embroidery floss to add the letter of your choice to the front of the jumper. I added an “R” for Ronald Weasley to this red jumper. Use 3-4 strands of embroidery floss so the letter is chunky and stands out. I used a chain-stitch for my letter. Check out this quick video by LoveCrafts for a quick demo on the chain stitch.
Step Three: Assemble the card.
Start by adhering Piece B (lll) to the front side of Piece A (llll). Next, add the embroidered jumper and holiday greeting.
I used a ruler and Scor-Tape to attach everything together. Scor-tape is great because it has a super-strong hold, but it is not repositionable so keep that in mind.
The card is complete! Make a bunch of cards using maroon felt for Ron Weasley and emerald green felt for Harry Potter as I did – or create your own Weasley jumpers with different colors and initials. They are so fun and perfect for Harry Potter fans.
If you want to be a little extra, add an envelope liner using patterned scrapbook paper. Cut a piece of paper the size of the envelope then take off about 1/4″-3/8″ from each side.
Another extra special touch fans will appreciate is sealing your envelopes with a Hogwarts seal! I purchased a fun wax kit from Amazon when I made this Harry Potter Mail holder. Making the seals is really easy and they turn out so cool. I have always sent my letters that have the wax seal on them in a larger envelope or package so I’m not sure how the seals fair when mailed exposed.
