Celebrate a special couple by creating these Harry Potter Wedding and Engagement Cards! Grab the free printables and some sparkly gold embroidery floss and create a handmade keepsake worth saving!
Good morning! I am very excited to share another Harry Potter craft with you today – this time it is a wedding/engagement card! Recently two of my very good friends got engaged and they are now planning a Harry Potter-themed wedding. Yay!! It seemed only fitting to create a Harry Potter engagement card for them! So today I’m sharing my Harry Potter Wedding and Engagement Cards as free printables you can download for free!
The cards feature a golden snitch which is added in fabric and gold embroidery floss. If you are not a regular sewer, don’t let this discourage you from trying this DIY!! It is easier than it looks! Especially because you will be pre-punching holes in the paper that you will then follow with the thread. I hope you’ll give this a try. The cards are a sweet handmade way for a couple to remember this special event.
DIY Harry Potter Engagement and Wedding Cards
Supplies Needed:
- Free Printables (download and save to your desktop before printing at 100%)
- White card stock – I used 110 lb bright white
- DMC Light Effects Floss in Gold
- Gold brocade fabric
- Gold mesh or tulle fabric
- Scoring board and embossing stylus (optional)
- Scissors, needle, pencil
Step by Step Tutorial
Step One: Download and print the card.
Download the free printable card. There will be an inside card that is either for an engagement or wedding, and the cover card, which is the same for both. You can add the couple’s initials at the bottom using a program like Photoshop or hand write them. Print the card onto white card stock (I used 110lb white paper) and cut both pieces out.
Score the inside card along the halfway mark. My halfway mark was at 4 5/8″, but you should double check your halfway mark before scoring, just in case!
Step Two: Create the golden snitch out of fabric.
Cut out the fabric pieces you will need for the snitch using the free printable pattern. I used fabric I found in my stash – a nice, thick gold brocade for the center of the snitch and a metallic mesh for the wings.
Lay out the fabric snitch pieces on the cover card. Once you like the placement, you can use a couple pieces of tape to hold the wings of the snitch down. Place the tape on the ends of the wings that will be covered up by the center circle. Using a needle, poke holes about 3/8″ apart along the wings. This will make it easier to stitch through the paper and help to keep your stitches consistent. Stitch the wings to the card using a backstitch and gold embroidery floss. Stitch the center circle of the snitch down using a running stitch.

Step Three: Attach the card cover and finish the card.
Adhere the two pieces of the card together. The cover card, which you have stitched on, sits on top of the inside card so the stitching is covered up on the inside. The cover card is designed to be slightly longer than the inside card. I used a tape runner to adhere the two pieces together and it worked really well.
The card is complete and ready to be gifted to a special couple :)
This finishes up my 2016 series of Harry Potter crafts!! You can check out of the Harry Potter crafts I make each year under my Harry Potter Craft Section. Update: My friends had an amazing Harry Potter-themed wedding and I made some really fun crafts for the occasion including a Harry Potter Directional Sign and a Three Broomsticks Sign!
