Vintage Fall Truck Appliqué
Check out my newest appliqué design, a vintage fall truck, and learn about four festive projects you can create with it!
Hello Crafty Friends! Today I’m excited to share my newest appliqué pattern, a vintage fall truck! I had so much fun making my Red Truck Pattern for the holidays, that I thought it would be cute to have a fall version in teal. I love how sweet the felt truck turned out. It features autumnal colors, pumpkins and the cutest button wheels.
The Pattern
The pattern is available in my Etsy shop and includes a step-by-step picture tutorial for creating the truck. The PDF packet also includes a stitching guide and a bonus pattern for making an embroidery hoop.
Felt and Fabric
The vintage truck can be made from either felt or scraps of fabric. For the teal truck pictured at the beginning of this post, I used wool felt from Benzie Design. It was really lovely to stitch with and I love that I was able to get the felt in different shades of teal.
Below are the colors I ordered from Benzie Design in order left to right – Aqua, Capri, Peacock, Pumpkin, Tangerine, Golden, Nutmeg. I ended up only using two shades of teal, Capri and Peacock, and instead of making the wheels using the Netmeg felt, I created them with buttons.
Four Fall Truck Projects
One of my favorite things about my appliqué designs is the different ways I find to use them! I’ve used them for signs, wreaths, banners, and ornaments – just to name a few! This teal truck is no different. Below I’m sharing four fall projects you can make featuring the teal truck!
Fall Truck Framed Decor
After creating the fall truck, frame it with a white, farmhouse-style frame. The truck measures 6″ x 3.5″ so it fits inside a 5″ x 7″ frame really well. I found the perfect frame on Amazon. Remove the glass and add a piece of carstock to the frame. Glue the truck to the cardstock or use foam adhesive to lift it up creating a dimensional piece of art ready to be displayed all season!
Fall Vintage Truck Wreath
Create a DIY fall wreath using burlap, fall foliage, and the handmade felt truck! This is such a fun wreath to display for fall and it’s pretty fun to make. I share how to make the fall truck wreath in a different post. I found all of the supplies in my craft stash, including the orange buffalo check burlap I used years ago to make my pumpkin banner.
Vintage Truck Felt Ornaments
Turning any of my appliqué designs into ornaments is super simple! All of my appliqué patterns include instructions for covering the back of the design. This is important if you using the designs for a banner or for ornaments where the back may be visible. Before ironing the backing to the design, you simply slip a loop of ribbon or twine in at the top and you’ll have an ornament ready to be displayed!
Looking for a place to hang ornaments other than a Christmas tree? Try an ornament holder (I love these from Amazon) that can be set anywhere and display an ornament any time of year. I’ve also displayed ornaments on a branch I found in my yard and placed in a vase or most recently I started displaying ornaments on this tabletop branch tree. I’ve had the black one for a couple years – it’s perfect for a Halloween tree!
Fall Truck Embroidery Hoop
Another great way to use my fall appliqué pattern is by creating a unique embroidery hoop. I included a step-by-step tutorial for the embroidery hoop I made with the Teal Truck Pattern.
For this project, I chose to use scraps of fabric I had in my stash. I love the cute buffalo check window! Stitching the words “Hello Autumn” was a fun little challenge. I normally stitch wording with just a simple backstitch, but I tried giving it more dimension by filling in parts of the cursive lettering. The finished hoop can be displayed in an easel or hung on the wall with a small loop of ribbon or twine.
