Hello Crafty Friends! It’s the eighth day of my annual series “12 Days of Holiday Crafts” and I’m excited to share a new interactive Christmas tree pull card. I love creating handmade cards for the holidays – especially when they are interactive!

This festive card transforms easily in seconds. Pull the green insert from the card to change an evergreen tree in a wintery scene to a fully decorated tree in seconds. The back of the insert is white and perfect for writing a holiday greeting on.

A Christmas tree pull card rests inside a red envelope with the insert next to it with a sweet note written on it.

The card measures 5″ x 7″ and will fit in an A7 envelope. Below are the instructions for assembling the card plus directions for setting up the cut file in Cricut Design Space.

Two Christmas tree cards, one is in a red envelope.

Supplies Needed

Supplies including cardstock, printable, scor-tape and string.

Cut the Printable Pieces

Part of this card is a printable with two of the card pieces on it; the Christmas tree and the “Merry and Bright” greeting. After printing this page on white cardstock, cut both pieces out with a paper trimmer or scissors. The printable also includes a small rectangle, which can be used to cut the brown tree truck out if you are not using the SVG cut file.

Cutting the Cardstock Pieces

The rest of the card is made from cardstock. These pieces can be cut by hand with the PDF pattern or cut with my SVG cut file. Below are directions for cutting them with a Cricut Cutting machine.

Start by uploading the cut file into Cricut Design Space and insert it into a new project.

The black rectangle in the cut file is a score line layer. If your machine does not have a scoring tool, delete this layer. If your machine does, like my Cricut Explore, go ahead and change the operation of this layer from cut to score using the operations drop down menu.

After the layer has been changed to score, the black rectangle will become dashed score lines. They now need to be “attached” to the blue cardstock. Select both layers and then select “Attach” at the bottom right of the layers panel.

The layers will move to the top of the layers panel and appear as attached. The file is now ready to be cut! Make sure to insert your scoring tool.

Blue paper is cut on a cutting machine.

Below are all of the 6 pieces needed for the card cut from both the SVG cut file and the printable.

The pieces for the card are cut and laying on a table surface.

Assemble the Card

Step One: Fold the blue card along the score lines. Use a bone folder to create crisp fold lines.

Blue cardstock is folded in half; it has a triangle cut out of it.

Step Two: Apply double-sided tape to the back of the brown truck, “Merry and Bright” greeting, white insert card, white Christmas tree piece and finally on the tab of the blue card. Make sure the adhesive you use is not visible through the triangle cut-out.

Scor-tape is added to the edges of the white cardstock pieces.

Step Three: Apply the truck and greeting to the front of the blue card under the triangle cut out.

A brown stem and the message "Merry and Bright" are adhered to the front of the blue card.

Step Four: Place the Christmas tree printable on the inside of the card so it will be visible through the triangle cut-out. Make sure to center the tree on the back of the card.

The printable Christmas tree is adhered to the inside of the card.

Step Five: Close the card using the adhesive tab. I found it helpful to leave the card overnight under a stack of books to help flatten it out,                                                                                                                                                                                       The blue cardstock is secured into a card with the Christmas tree visible through the cut out.

Step Six: Finally, add snowflake confetti to the front of the card with a glue pen.

Snowflake sequins are adhered to the front of the Christmas tree card.

Create the Insert

Step Seven: After the card has been assembled, the last step is to create the insert. Adhere the two insert layers together, making sure to line up the small holes on the same side. Slip a small piece of red and white Baker’s twine through the hole to help the insert be easily pulled out from the card.

Two rectangles for the insert are cut from white and green paper.\Red and white baker's twine is tied to the top of the card insert.

Slide the insert into the Christmas tree card and the card is finished!
