Handmade baby dress made using McCalls pattern M5791. Created using beautiful woodland animal fabric for the perfect woodland party dress!
Today I’m excited to share this sweet woodland party dress I create for our woodland-themed birthday party! I love sewing special birthday dresses and this one was very fun to make and can be worn year-round!
The dress is made with the fabric Woodland Scene by Timeless Treasures. I used a McCall’s pattern, M5791, and altered it slightly. Instead of a zipper I decided to use buttons. Doing this allowed me to cut the back of the skirt without a center back seam and I just put in a small placket for the buttons. Another simple changed I made was using a pre-made collar I had on hand instead of making one.
My favorite part of the whole dress is definitely the collar. The scalloped edges are so sweet! It is a Florence & Eiseman collar I picked up a few years ago from a fabric store. The collar was so quick to use and I think it really gives the dress a special look!
Here are a few more handmade dresses I’ve made for my little one. I usually start with a commerical pattern from McCalls or Simplicity and then alter it a little here and there. Once you make the same dress a couple times it becomes easier to play around with the pattern.
