It’s day #7 of “12 Days of Holiday Crafts” and today I’m sharing this fun DIY Holiday Lights Necklace! A few years ago we were gifted holiday light necklaces that light up and flash. They were so fun to wear, especially while doing holiday-themed activities! I thought it would be fun to make my own version of the lightbulb necklaces using felt and yarn! They turned out so cute and this was a nice, simple craft that is easy to replicate if you want to make one for everyone in your family!

I chose to make my necklace with colorful lightbulbs, but you could make one using just red and green felt! Below is the tutorial and a quick video showing how to create these fun holiday light necklaces!

DIY Holiday Lights Necklace

Supplies Needed:

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step One: Cut colorful lightbulbs from felt.

Download and print the free template. Use the lightbulb template and trace two lightbulbs onto a piece of colorful felt. I used a ballpoint pen which worked well on the felt.

Cut both lightbulbs out.

Glue them together using fabric glue. I used Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac.

Repeat for each lightbulb!

Step Two: Cut the bottom of each lightbulb, the screw bases, from gray felt.

Use the template to trace the screw base for each lightbulb. To easily cut lots of them at once, cut a long rectangle that is 2.25″ wide. Fold it in half and mark every 3/4″. Then cut along the marked lines.

Step Three: String the lightbulbs into a necklace.

Unfold one of the gray rectangles. Glue a lightbulb to the inside and lay the yarn along the open fold. Fold the gray rectangle down and hold for a few seconds.

Attach each lightbulb, spacing them about 1″ apart along the piece of yarn.

Step Four: Mark the screw lines onto the base.

Most lightbulbs have a screw base so you can screw the lightbulb into the socket. Add the three lines to each gray base using a silver metallic Sharpie.

The holiday light necklace is finished and ready to be worn!! We just tied our yarn in a bow and made them large enough to take on and off without retying them.

I hope you enjoyed this fun and simple holiday craft! I’ll be back tomorrow for day #8 of my Holiday crafts series :)
