Four Leaf Clover Friendship Sign
Celebrate a special friend with a handmade four leaf clover friendship sign! Use a combination of vinyl and Iron-On to create this sign using your cutting machine.
Hello Crafty Friends! The saying “A good friend is like a four leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have” could not be more true! Celebrate a special friend by making this handmade four leaf clover friendship sign. It makes a sweet gift any time of the year, but I thought it would be perfect to share this March.
The design is made using a combination of vinyl and Iron-On. I used green vinyl for the friendship quote and clovers and then layered two different colors of Iron-On on top of the clovers. Layering the different green colors and textures really makes these clovers pop. Cute green buttons finish each shamrock and add a nice dimension to the wooden sign.
I made the design in Cricut Design Space and am sharing the file so you can create the sign too. The design uses several images in Design Space including the font “Spring Break”, all available for free with a Cricut Access subscription.
Below is the tutorial for making this four leaf clover friendship sign for St. Patrick’s Day. Looking for more St. Patrick’s Day projects? Last week I shared my St. Patrick’s Day Gnome Planters and this Celtic Shamrock Embroidery Hoop – both can be made with the help of your Cricut.
Supplies Needed:
*I chose to use a combination of vinyl and Iron-On, but the design could be made entirely from vinyl. Just choose 3 different shades of green.
- White wooden sign – mine measured 7″x 7″
- Green Vinyl
- Green Glitter Iron-On
- I used the Jade color from the Glam Squad Sampler. This Glitter Iron-On in Kelly Green could also work!
- Light Green Iron-On
- Vinyl Transfer Tape
- 3 Green Buttons
- Cutting Machine
- Standard Cutting Mat
- Weeding Tools
- Cricut Easy Press Mini or Iron
- Hot Glue
- Cricut Design Space File
Cutting the Vinyl and Iron-On
Start by heading over to Cricut Design Space and using my Design Space file to cut out the vinyl and Iron-On. I chose to cut the friendship quote and clovers out of the same dark green vinyl. I cut the clover centers from green Glitter Iron-On and the clover leaf marks from a light green Iron-On. You could make this entire project using vinyl, I was just using what I had on hand.
Resize the design to fit the wooden board you will be using. My wooden board measured 7″ x 7″.
Don’t forget to hide the wooden sign layer before cutting. It is just there to help you size your design.
Cut the vinyl and/or Iron-On using your cutting machine. I used my Cricut Explore!
Weeding the Designs
Once the designs have been cut, carefully weed them using a weeding tool. I accidentally cut off my “a” with my paper trimmer, so I had to re-cut it and add it to my design! Try not to make that mistake :)
Applying the Design to the Wooden Sign
Use Transfer Tape to transfer the vinyl to the wooden sign. The Transfer Tape had a grid printed on it which can be really helpful for positioning your design on the sign.
Add the Iron-On pieces, the clover centers and clover leaf marks, using an iron or a mini heat press. I used a thin piece of muslin to make sure I didn’t touch my heat press to the vinyl. The Mini is a recent purchase and I have been having a lot of fun using it. It was perfect for this small sign.
Add the Cute Buttons
The final step is to use hot glue to add cute green buttons to the center of each shamrock. I really like adding something dimensional when possible to my wooden signs and these buttons are just enough to give the sign some texture!
The wooden sign is complete! It is ready to be gifted to someone special this St. Patrick’s Day (or anytime of the year!). I hope you enjoyed this quick Cricut craft. Check out my other Cricut Design Space projects for more fun craft ideas for your Cricut cutting machine.
