Hello Crafty Friends! Today I’m excited to share a cute activity for little ones – garden dot activity pages. I created these years ago for my daughter and she absolutely loved them. I was going through some files on my computer and found them and thought it would be fun to share them with you today.
We were doing lots of crafts and learning activities at the time related to gardening and nature. With all of the flowers blooming outside it is such a great spring or summer theme. I created a sunny garden scene with flowers and lots of round bugs flying through the air.
These pages are perfect to use with Do-A-Dot markers, dabbers, or round stickers. They can be used for letter or number recognition, color matching and even with sight words making them suitable for a huge range of ages!
Setting up the different activities is quick and the activity can be done independently or with a caregiver. There are lots of different ways you can use these printable sheets. Below I will show you how we used our sheets, what materials we used, and you can download the pages for free!
Garden Dot Learning Printables
Materials Used
- Garden Dot Printables – Grab the free file by filling out the purple form at the end of this post.
- Paper – printer paper or 65lb cardstock
- Do-A-Dot Markers
- Colorful 3/4″ Round Stickers – I used Avery brand
- Sharpie Marker
Color Matching
Use the printable that has tiny colorful dots inside each bug. Give your child a sheet of colorful round stickers (with red, green, yellow, and blue colored dots) and ask them to match the stickers to the bugs until all of the bugs are covered.
To break the activity down for our littlest learners, you could give your child a strip of stickers that are all the same color and ask them to match the bugs of the same color. This may be less overwhelming than giving the entire sheet of different colored stickers.
*Tip: If children have trouble removing the round stickers, try removing the sticker backing from the sheet. This can make it easier for little fingers to lift up the stickers.
Letter and Number Matching
Use these printables to practice number and letter recognition. Included in my printable set are dot sheets with the letters of the alphabet, both lowercase and uppercase, and numbers written inside the bugs.
- Write the alphabet on a set of round stickers using a Sharpie. Give your child the sheet of stickers and ask them to match them to the bugs.
- Give your child a dot marker, or make a dot marker using a clothespin and cotton ball with finger paint, and call out a number and ask them to dab it with the color.
Sight Word Matching
These same activity pages can also be used for sight words. Included are four pages with sight words on them, written inside each of the bugs. There are 25 words on each page, all from the 100 first words on the Fry Sight Word List. Call out a sight word and ask your child to find it and dab it!
You could also do this activity using the dot stickers and ask your child to match the sticker to the word. We found dabbing was our preferred method – it was more fun for my daughter and way easier for me to set up!
