Good morning! Today I have a new tutorial for making these cute Rainbow Treat Boxes – perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! I love how crisp and fresh they look in white. These boxes could be used any time of year, but filled with some Skittles, gold coins and a St. Patrick’s Day ring, they become a sweet treat for the holiday.
These boxes come together quickly using a cutting machine! You can grab both the SVG cut file and the free printable at the end of this post. After cutting the box out of white cardstock, you’ll slip the free printable rainbow underneath the lid and the box is finished!
Supplies Needed for DIY Rainbow Treat Box
- Free SVG cut file and Free Rainbow Printable – located at the end of this post
- White cardstock
- Scor-Pal Score tape – I used 1/4″
- Paper cutter or scissors
- Scoring board and Stylus *optional
- Cutting machine – I used my Cricut Explore
- Cricut Explore scoring tool
Step One: Use the free SVG Cut file to cut out the two box pieces. Make sure to change the score lines (in pink) to score rather than cut and “Attach” them to the correct pieces. To attach them to the correct pieces you’ll need to first “UnGroup” everything. Once they are attached you will be ready to cut! Double check the mats before cutting to make sure the score lines show up as dashed lines on each piece. ** Watch the video: Preparing BugabooCity SVG Cut Files in Cricut Design Space to see how to do this.**
Print the free printable rainbow. The rainbow is formatted to fit the box lid perfectly. If you choose to change the size of the white box, you will need to adjust the rainbow as well.
Step Two: Once all of the pieces are cut and printed, it’s time to assemble the box! Fold along the scored lines of the box. If you have a scoring board and stylus, you can go over the score lines. I like to do this because although my Cricut Explore scores, I find going over it with a stylus makes a deeper and smoother score line. It isn’t necessary though!
Start by placing the rainbow under the box lid so it shows through the cutouts. I used Scor-Tape – my favorite adhesive to use for these treat boxes because it is so smooth and strong! Make sure the rainbow cutout stays within the fold lines.
Step Three: Fold along the score lines and adhere little strips of Scor-Tape to each tab as shown in the pictures below. Then close up both pieces of the box.
The boxes are finished! This was a fun pattern to create and I love how pretty these boxes turned out. You could fill these with any fun rainbow candy or snack for the perfect treat! I filled my boxes with Skittles candy, chocolate coins and St. Patrick’s Day rings!
